Association
The Quebec Association of Building Inspectors (AIBQ) is recognized in the industry as being THE REFERENCE in building inspections throughout Quebec.

L’AIBQ : Is second to none in all real estate transactions !

For most people, buying a home will be the most important transaction of their lifetime. This is why a professional inspection before purchasing any property has become essential and in the buyer’s best interest. Now commonplace, a property inspection is part of the required steps to completing a real-estate transaction.
Mission
To ensure the public’s protection through the supervision of its members, by:
• Applying strict requirements in the candidate application process;
• Successful completion of exams determining the technical knowledge in building components;
• Continuous mandatory annual training;
• Obligatory professional liability insurance (errors or omissions).
History
Established in the early 90’s, AIBQ is a non profit organization which regroups the largest number of building inspectors in Quebec.

Home inspections were first introduced in the early 70’s. This new service was a direct response to the growing demand by buyers to learn about the condition of the house they were about to purchase, particularly the state of the various systems and of specific parts of the building.

Residential building inspection is a unique discipline, distinct from construction, engineering, architecture or municipal building inspection and requires special training.

The Canadian Association of Home Inspectors (CAHI) became an affiliation of the American Society of Home Inspectors in 1987. In Quebec, the Quebec Association of Building Inspectors (AIBQ) founded in the early 90’s has been a working member of the Canadian Association of Home Inspectors since its beginnings.
